Yes, they float. I submerged one in my kitchen sink for a couple of hours. When I pulled it out and took off the lid, it was dry inside. I probably wouldn't take it on a guided OceanGate tour to visit the Titanic, but if you're patrolling through swamps or storing it somewhere it'll get rained or sweat on, it'll be just fine.🫡
They're 3D printed using PLA, a corn derivative (usually PLA+ or PLA Pro, which has higher durability and heat resistance). Here's what a quick Google search says about PLA:
Polylactic acid (PLA) is safe for food contact and is approved by the FDA as a Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) polymer. PLA is a thermoplastic bioplastic often used for food packaging because it's non-toxic, durable, and biodegradable. When PLA breaks down, it releases small amounts of lactic acid into food, which is a common food ingredient also found in breast milk. Studies have shown that the amount of lactic acid people consume from PLA is about 700 times less than what breast-fed infants consume.
Each order is custom-handmade by one guy with one 3D printer. That one guy is still a full-time active-duty soldier, a father of three, and a part-time husband. That being said, once we (that one guy) receive your order, the design process usually starts the next day. The day after that, we print. The day after that, we ship. Life, work, and family can sometimes cause delays, but even with shipping time, it's never taken more than a few weeks between receiving the order and delivering the order.
